Texas' Case McCoy, Jordan Hicks focus of sexual assault allegations

Texas quarterback Case McCoy and linebacker Jordan Hicks are the focus of a sexual assault investigation by San Antonio police, multiple sources confirmed to 247Sports.com. A source within the school's administration also identified the players to ESPN.com. A source with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that McCoy and Hicks were sent home Friday evening for missing curfew. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the school wasn't releasing the names of the suspended players. Javier Salazar, a San Antonio police spokesman, told the AP only that detectives are in the early stages of investigating a case of alleged sexual assault in the downtown area. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence, he said. San Antonio television station KENS-TV was the first to report the investigation. Longhorns coach Mack Brown said Friday that two players were being sent home for violating team rules, but he provided no names. "This has been reported: We had a couple young men that broke team rules last night. They have been suspended from the team and they will be sent home," Brown said at a previously scheduled news conference in San Antonio. "They will not be available for the game and I will not address any more questions in that matter." A heavily redacted police report says a 21-year-old woman told police she believed she was assaulted around 2 a.m. Friday after inviting two men to her hotel room. The woman told police that she had had several drinks when she invited the men to her hotel. She later alleged that one of the men assaulted her while the other "just stood there and watched," the report said. Police said they observed bruises on the woman's right knee and left bicep. No charges have been filed. The Longhorns are staying at a hotel about a mile away from the hotel where the alleged assault occurred. After talking to police, the woman was taken to a San Antonio hospital, where she was seen by a sexual assault nurse examiner, according to the report. The two suspects also were taken to the hospital and examined by the nurse, the report says. McCoy, the younger brother of former Texas standout and current NFL quarterback Colt McCoy, is a backup to David Ash this season. The junior passed for 722 yards and six touchdowns. Hicks, also a junior, started three games this year before a hip injury that caused him to sit out the next eight contests.

Things can't get much worse for Texas quarterback Case McCoy, on the field or off of it. Four weeks after throwing two interceptions against Kansas State in a losing effort in his only start of 2012, the junior signal-caller was sent home one day before the Longhorn's Valero Alamo Bowl matchup with Oregon State in San Antonio, along with linebacker Jordan Hicks for violating team rules according to an ESPN.com report. Head coach Mack Brown stated the following on Friday (via ESPN.com): This has been reported: We had a couple young men that broke team rules last night. They have been suspended from the team and they will be sent home. They will not be available for the game and I will not address any more questions in that matter. That same ESPN.com report stated that KENS-TV in San Antonio quoted local police as saying that a pair of Longhorns players were being investigated for an alleged sexual assault that took place early Friday morning. However, no charges had been filed at the time of the report. For now, we can only speculate on McCoy's football future. Although McCoy's future in Austin is uncertain for the time being, we'll assume he returns for his senior season with Texas. In that case, here's what Longhorns fans can expect from the younger McCoy brother in 2013. Sophomore quarterback David Ash, who played much of this season for the Longhorns and who will play Saturday against Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl, will be back as a junior in 2013, which means that McCoy will likely be relegated to a backup role if he's back with the team. McCoy is used to that role, but as a senior looking to boost his draft stock it may be tough to swallow. I wouldn't bet on him to throw for more than 1,000 yards in 2013 though. McCoy is an awkward situation heading into his senior season. McCoy's four interceptions against Baylor as a sophomore highlighted his occasional poor judgment on the field. And his recent suspension signals that he is not yet ready become the sort of leader a quarterback at Texas must be. If Case McCoy is back in Austin in 2013 for his senior season, expectations will and should be low. At this point in time, McCoy looks to be nothing more than a quality backup for a power conference college football team.

UFC 155 bonuses: Miller, Lauzon, Duffee, Moraga earn $65,000 awards

LAS VEGAS – Jim Miller, Joe Lauzon, Todd Duffee and John Moraga each earned $65,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday's UFC 155 event.

Duffee earned the "Knockout of the Night" award, Moraga won "Submission of the Night" and Miller and Lauzon picked up "Fight of the Night" honors.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the winners and bonus amounts at the night's post-event press conference, where they were announced by UFC President Dana White.

UFC 155 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event's main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Miller (22-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) spent the first round battering Lauzon (22-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC) and bloodying him relentlessly with elbows and fists. But in the second, Lauzon was able to start to mount a comeback. And in the third, he went after it with gusto – though his submission attempts proved to be too little, too late. Still, it was the one fight out of the first four on the main card that had the crowd on its feet.

Duffee (8-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) made a triumphant return to the UFC after a lengthy absence and survived a few rough moments with Philip De Fries (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) to notch a first-round TKO. Duffee landed several big bombs with De Fries pushed up against the fence, and then a giant uppercut dropped him for good.

Moraga (12-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) spent the first two rounds of his fight against Chris Cariaso (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) on the wrong end of the striking game. But in the third, Moraga was able to get the fight to the fence, and he transitioned from a front headlock to a standing guillotine that eventually was too much for Cariaso.
